Introduction to SEO Yoast SEO
UPME provides an integration with Yoast SEO plugin for improving the visibility of user profiles for search engines and support for sharing user profiles in social networking sites. First, you have to install and activate the Yoast SEO plugin to enable SEO settings for SEO. Once enabled, you can go to SEO -> Social section and you will find the settings for popular social networks as shown in the following screenshot.
You have to enable meta data/tags for each social network based on your preference. Apart from that you will have to also updae a default profile image for sharing with Facebook using the Image URL: setting. That’s all you need to integrate Yoast SEO with UPME.
Configure and Setup SEO Settings
Now you will have access to SEO settings section from UPME Settings -> Modules -> SEO. You will find various settings as shown in the following screenshot.
Let’s got though each of these settings and its functionality.
- Prefix for Profile Page Title Bar – setting allows you to add a prefix to the profile page title tag.For example you can use UPME as the prefix followed by the Display Name
- Suffix for Profile Page Title Bar – setting allows you to add a suffix to the profile page title tag.For example you can use UPME as the suffix after the Display Name.
- Field for Title Meta Tag – setting is used to define the custom field used for profile page title tag. Value of this field for each user will be added to the title meta tag of your profile page. Ideally, you should be using Display Name or any other field that uniquely identifies the user.
- Field for Description Meta Tag – setting is used to define the custom field used for profile page description meta tag.Value of this field for each user will be added to the description meta tag of your profile page. Ideally, you should be using About / Bio or any other field that provides a description about the user.
- Field for Description Meta Tag – setting is used to define the custom field used for profile page image meta tag.Value of this field for each user will be added to the image meta tag of your profile page. Ideally, you should be using Profile Picture or any other field that provides a photo about the user.
Once these settings are saved, you will get the values of the custom fields assigned to the default HTML meta tags and social network specific tags based on your other settings. Following screenshot previews how meta details are displayed inside the profile page for a specific user.
These meta tags will improve the SEO related features on profiles and enables search engines to capture user profiles in search results. Similarly, you will also get a nice title, description and picture of the user when sharing profile URL on social media sites. However, you won’t be able to see the results immdiately as search enigines considerable time to get new content on search results. Also social networking sites uses cached information when loading information about a link. So you will have to wait till cache is updated or manually update the cache by using the tools provided by social networking sites to get proper results when sharing profiles.
